Price And Market Trend

Brief Analysis of Wire Rod Price Fluctuations

Aug. 25, 2026

Last week (August 17 to August 24), the domestic high-speed wire rod market maintained a trend of low-level narrow fluctuation. As the core raw material for the production of prestressed steel strands and steel wires, wire rod price fluctuations directly affect enterprise production and operation, product quotations and downstream project costs. This paper briefly analyzes the recent wire rod price fluctuations.

The mainstream quotation of domestic high-speed wire rod ranged from 3280 to 3420 yuan per ton, with a slight week-on-week increase of 10 to 30 yuan and a limited overall fluctuation range. August falls in the traditional off-season for steel consumption. Prices mainly bottomed out and recovered slightly within a narrow range driven by raw material fluctuations, without sharp or abnormal market swings.

Brief Analysis of Wire Rod Price Fluctuations

I. Supply, Demand and Inventory Situation

Current market demand shows prominent structural differentiation. Sustained rigid demand from infrastructure construction provides solid bottom support for wire rod prices. Restricted by high temperature and rainy weather, the construction progress of real estate and civil engineering projects is limited. Downstream purchasers generally adopt the strategy of purchasing on demand and minimal restocking, resulting in a weak overall market trading atmosphere. On the cost side, the prices of iron ore and coke rebounded slightly this week, offering limited cost support for wire rods, while terminal demand failed to keep pace synchronously. At this stage, policies on crude steel output regulation and environmental protection remain stable without major adjustments, leaving the market lacking sustained upward momentum in the off-season. Wire rod inventory is decreasing slowly but still under pressure, continuously curbing the upward space of prices.

II. Future Price Trend Prediction

Based on the market supply and demand, raw material trends and seasonal cycles in late August, domestic wire rod prices will generally maintain an operating trend of stabilizing at low levels, fluctuating narrowly and recovering moderately. The downward space of prices has basically narrowed, with no short-term momentum for a unilateral sharp rise. As high temperature and rainy weather gradually subside at the end of August, civil construction conditions will keep improving. Driven by the rising expectation of the traditional "Golden September" peak season, the restocking demand of downstream prestressed steel strand processing enterprises will be steadily released, bringing a mild recovery to wire rod prices.

However, weak real estate terminal demand and persistent market inventory pressure will continuously limit the rebound range. In the mid-term, the market trend in mid-to-late September will depend on the implementation of terminal construction, raw material cost fluctuations and changes in supply and demand. Sustained infrastructure demand and effective inventory destocking will lift the price center slightly; if the peak-season demand fails to meet expectations, the market will face renewed pressure and maintain an overall range-bound fluctuation pattern.
