Hollow Fiber UF Membranes

Filter Membrane

Hollow Fiber UF Membrane:

Hollow fiber membranes are self-supporting, fiber-like membranes. They are a type of asymmetric membrane, with the dense layer located either on the outer surface of the fiber (as in reverse osmosis membranes) or on the inner surface (as in microfiltration, nanofiltration, and ultrafiltration membranes). The membrane walls are covered with micropores, with the pore size expressed as the molecular weight of the substance it can retain, ranging from several thousand to several hundred thousand. We will select the appropriate hollow fiber membrane for your application based on your process requirements, treatment system, and related technical requirements.

Ultrafiltration is a process that uses a membrane with a pore size of 0.001-0.1 microns to filter solutions containing macromolecules or fine particles under pressure, separating them from the solution.

Ultrafiltration membranes primarily operate on a screening mechanism, falling between microfiltration and nanofiltration. Water purification is determined by operating pressure and membrane pore size. In some material separation systems, membranes with different pore sizes can selectively separate specific products.

ADVANTAGES

In water treatment, hollow fiber UF membranes, with their unique structure and performance:

1. High filtration precision, reliable purification results

The membrane pore size is typically 0.001-0.1μm, effectively intercepting impurities such as bacteria, viruses, colloids, large organic molecules, and suspended solids in water, while retaining beneficial minerals (such as calcium and magnesium ions). The resulting filtered water is crystal clear, directly meeting basic purification needs for drinking water, industrial process water, and other applications.

Case: After being used by a municipal water plant, the turbidity of raw water dropped to below 0.1NTU, and the bacteria removal rate was as high as 99.9%.

2. High Flux and Efficiency

The hollow fiber structure significantly increases the membrane's specific surface area (effective filtration area per unit volume), resulting in higher filtration flux for the same volume. This allows for rapid treatment of large volumes of water, making it suitable for large-scale water treatment applications (such as municipal and industrial wastewater treatment).

Case: In a wastewater treatment project in an industrial park, the average daily processing capacity of a single membrane module reached 5,000 m³, meeting the reclaimed water reuse needs of approximately 3,000 people.

3.Low operating costs and excellent energy efficiency.

The filtration process requires only a low operating pressure (typically 0.1-0.3 MPa), resulting in significantly lower energy consumption than deep filtration technologies such as reverse osmosis. Furthermore, the membrane modules can be restored through backwashing and chemical cleaning, extending their service life (typically 3-5 years) and reducing replacement costs.

4.Strong anti-pollution ability and wide adaptability

Some materials (such as PVDF membranes) are resistant to acid, alkali, and oxidation, and can withstand complex water conditions (such as highly polluted industrial wastewater and high-salinity environments). Processes such as cross-flow filtration can reduce the deposition of pollutants on the membrane surface, slowing membrane fouling and maintaining stable operation.

5. Flexible Application Scenario and Strong Compatibility

It can be used independently as a deep filtration unit or in combination with other processes (such as pretreatment, reverse osmosis, and nanofiltration). It is highly compatible with a variety of scenarios, including drinking water purification, wastewater treatment and reuse, and industrial purification.

USE

Our company's hollow fiber UF membranes are primarily made of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and polyethersulfone (PES), achieving precise control of their effective filtration accuracy from 3,000 to 500,000 Daltons. These membranes are widely used in municipal water plants, industrial boiler feed water, industrial water reuse systems, deep wastewater purification and zero-discharge systems, water/seawater desalination pretreatment, and wastewater reuse and purification.

1. PES UF Membrane

Polyethersulfone is a thermoplastic polymer material with excellent comprehensive properties. Its molecular chain segments are composed of benzene rings, ether bonds, and sulfone groups. The interaction of these three elements imparts excellent thermal stability, oxidative stability, and mechanical properties.

- The membrane has a sponge structure with a molecular weight cut-off of 80-100k Daltons.

- The three-dimensional network-like sponge structure differs from the surface retention of finger-like pores. While ensuring high water flux, it also offers enhanced permeability and mechanical properties (burst pressure resistance >10 kg, breaking strength >550 cN).

- Compared to conventional finger-like pore structures, it is less likely for fine contaminants to penetrate the membrane wall, effectively removing viruses, bacteria, and other microorganisms from the feed water, and demonstrating enhanced pollution resistance.

2. PVDF UF membrane

This material is corrosion-resistant, antioxidant, acid- and alkali-resistant, and chemically stable. The membrane fibers utilize fiber composite manufacturing technology and undergo special processes, including permanent hydrophilic modification, to create a gradient mesh pore structure. Precise pore size control enables precise material separation, high recovery rates, and stable performance. Bacterial retention rates exceeding 4LOG are achieved, significantly improving water flux while maintaining stable performance.

- High Flux and Low-Temperature Resistance: The permanently hydrophilized PVDF material and gradient network pore structure provide exceptionally high permeability, increasing flux by 40% at the same low-temperature pressure differential.

- High Peel Strength: Utilizing a crocheted cord lining, securely bonded to the PVDF functional layer, the single-filament peel strength reaches ≥1.5 MPa, effectively eliminating membrane filament deformation, breakage, and the fragility of the functional layer, ensuring long-term stable water quality.

- Positioned Wire Arrangement Technology: Effectively prevents entanglement, tangling, and mud accumulation caused by cross-linking of membrane filaments. The soft rubber at the base of the membrane filaments provides a cushioning protection, effectively preventing breakage.

- Dry Storage: The PVDF membrane filaments produced through the composite modification process exhibit excellent chemical resistance and permanent hydrophilicity, making them easy to store, transport, and maintain.

Model Selection Recommendations:

- If the molecular weight of large organic molecules in the water being treated is between 10,000 and 30,000, the YX-UF-20K (MWCO 20,000) is preferred, as it accurately intercepts target substances.

- Membrane filaments with smaller inner/outer diameters (e.g., 0.4 / 0.6 mm) are suitable for compact equipment, provide faster water flow, and are ideal for low-contamination water. Membrane filaments with larger outer diameters (e.g., 3.5 / 5.0 mm) are more resistant to clogging and are suitable for high-turbidity water.
